All Saints Day is a legitimate Christian holy day on Nov. 1. But most people outside of church circles don’t know that. Instead, they focus on Oct. 31 and the Halloween celebrations that accompany it.
Churches have varying stances on Halloween. Some embrace it and have Halloween events, such as a “Trunk or Treat” where costumed kids traverse the church parking lot for candy from fun-loving church members. Other churches create alternative festivals – harvest festivals, for example, which celebrate the season but don’t endorse the dark-spirit themes behind Halloween. Then there are churches that ignore Halloween completely and others who speak out against its message.
